A cage insert consists of a perforated aluminum plate that supports an aluminum rail via a bearing. The whole assembly can be placed at the top of a standard mouse cage.

In our system, Intracerebroventricular infusions of test substances can be performed via a thin infusion tubing placed inside of the metallic spring, which is connected to the miniature programmable pump (such as iPRECIO SMP-310R, Primetech corporation, Tokyo, Japan). Intravenous infusions can be performed via Vascular Access Buttons™ (Instech Laboratories).
